Tata Projects Ltd. has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) for an integrated phosphoric acid–sulfuric acid complex at Sikka, in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat, India.
The Mumbai-based contractor, a member of the Tata Group, called the award an important milestone in its expansion into specialised process industries and said it reinforces its position as an EPC partner for complex industrial infrastructure. GSFC is headquartered in Vadodara.
Capacity and scope
The proposed complex is built around two linked production units:
- a phosphoric acid plant with a capacity of 600 metric tons per day (MTPD);
- a sulfuric acid plant rated at 1,800 MTPD.
Both are to be supported by associated utilities and offsite infrastructure. Tata Projects' scope covers the integrated development of the two manufacturing facilities together with those supporting systems.
Interdependent plants, single delivery model
Because the phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid operations are interdependent, Tata Projects said successful delivery will require close coordination across engineering disciplines, procurement, construction planning and commissioning interfaces. The company presents its integrated EPC approach as the means of managing that complexity while keeping execution efficient.
For GSFC, the project forms part of a strategic expansion and backward-integration programme. The stated aims are to strengthen captive raw-material availability for phosphatic fertilizer production, reduce exposure to imported inputs and improve long-term operational resilience.
Contractor's positioning
Rajiv Menon, president and chief growth and strategy officer at Tata Projects, said the award builds on sustained engagement with GSFC and demonstrates the company's ability to compete for and secure complex industrial projects through differentiated solutions and a compelling value proposition. As the firm widens its presence in chemicals, fertilizers and other specialised process industries, he said, its priority remains a high-quality, diversified order book anchored in technical expertise, execution credibility and enduring customer partnerships.
The contract extends Tata Projects beyond its established work in power, metals and mining, oil and gas, clean energy and advanced manufacturing. The company said stronger participation in chemicals and fertilizers is intended to deepen its process-engineering expertise, diversify its industrial portfolio and create sustained value through technically differentiated EPC solutions.
The announcement did not disclose the contract value, project schedule, completion date, process licensors or detailed technology configuration for either unit.
