Elevated concept view of a residential groundworks site with foundation trenches, drainage runs, utility ducts and excavators arranged across several regional work zones.

Places for People has named the contractors for a £246m groundworks framework, with Coinford Central and RJ McLeod securing the widest coverage across the 13 regional lots in England and Scotland.

Coinford Central and RJ McLeod each won places on six lots. M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each picked up four lots, while MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O'Halloran & O'Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering were also named among the winners.

Regional lots

The framework is divided into 13 regional lots covering Greater London, the South East, the South West, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, Yorkshire, the North West and Scotland. The North West lot covers Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside, while the Yorkshire lot covers South and West Yorkshire.

Several regions are split into smaller packages. The South East has separate lots for south Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, and for East Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. The South West is divided into three lots: north Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire; south Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset; and west Bristol, Devon and Somerset. Scotland has a Central Belt lot, a North 1 lot covering the Aberdeen area only and a North 2 lot whose detailed area is not specified.

The Central West lot covers the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire, and the Central East lot covers Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire.

Greater London is the largest regional package at around £38m, followed by the Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset lot at £30m. East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.

Work scope

The work ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works. Scottish packages also cover house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.

The wider lot lists include a mix of groundworks and civil engineering specialists. Contractors named across the regional packages include ATD Civils & Groundworks, A D Bly Construction, Chap Group, I&H Brown, WM Donald, Renelec Groundworks, Tithegrove and Ford Civil Engineering.

The lists also include JLC Groundworks, John Reilly Civil Engineering, Westshield, Hilliard Civil Engineering (Nottingham), Manvers Main Construction, LMH (Civil Engineering), Stave-Con, Kingsheath Construction, J L Knight Roadworks, SEH Ipswich, DR Groundworks, Aeropark Developments, Hi-Acre Construction, Fred Champion Groundworks, Dockerill Groundworks, O'Connell Contracting, Advance Construction (Scotland), Akela Construction, Andrew Strain Construction, Keystone Construction Scotland, Stewart Landscapes (Contracts), JKR Contractors, Nicol of Skene and TSL Contractors.

The awards give Places for People a roster of contractors across the regional lots, with the largest regional allocations concentrated in London and southern England and separate coverage for the Midlands, Yorkshire, the North West and Scotland.
